Details and instructions on reviews:

Speincheaphostel.com will pay 5 € for those reviews that are at least 350 words and include 5 pictures.

1.- The review text:

  • The review should be at least 350 words, but if you want to write a longer review that's great. You can say whatever you want, but more than anything we want to give backpackers some sense as to what to expect. Reviews don't have to sound formal, they can be loose and fun, and a sense of humor is ok.
  • Reviews should be written in present tense (instead of saying "the hostel *was* marvelous", say "the hostel *is* marvelous"). But if there is something you want to mention about your particular experience, you might need to use some past tense for that, but you should use "we" instead of "I" since it sounds more professional.
  • Reviews can be "brutally honest", so be sure to include the good and bad.  All reviews should at least mention the condition of the building and how clean it is, what the bathroom failicities are like, what the common areas (kitchen, sitting areas) are like, and what the atmosphere is like (fun, quiet, social, dreary, happy, colorful, cold, dull, etc).  We don't usually say much about the staff, they can change from month to month, but you might want to mention the staff if something stands out. Similarly, it's best not to quote exact prices since prices change frequently, but you can comment on whether prices are cheap or expensive.  If you can, also include brief instructions about how to easily get to the hostel (by walking, bus, or the closest metro stop), so if you can help other people from getting lost, that's great.

2.- The review pictures:

In order to be paid for the review, you must take 1 picture of the city and 4 pictures of the hostel during your stay. A digital camera is the easiest way to take photos because you can simply upload the photos to submit them.  You can use the website to submit the photos online or send them by e-mail.
The 4 Hostel Pictures
  • We always want to have a picture of the outside of the hostel's building. The outside pictures usually look best if you take the picture from across the street, and you might have to kneel down to get a good angle.
  • Inside the hostel you should get a picture of the common area (such as the sitting area or kitchen), and it's always nice to get a few travellers hanging out in the picture too.  You should also get a picture of a dorm room.
  • And a picture of the bathroom is also a good bonus if possible because people like to know how clean or nice the bathrooms are.  Be careful to keep track of which pictures were from which hostels because it's not always easy to figure it out later.
City Pictures
  • For the city pictures, use pictures that can represent a city (such as the Eiffel tower in Paris).

We need to have at least one picture for the city of the hostel you stayed at. How to prove you really are the owner of the photo? The picture must show our website or logo which you can write on a paper, or use this printed document, see an example. This is mandatory for a review in order to get published and paid.

3.- Payments:

REMEMBER ONLY EDITOR REVIEWS ARE ENTITLED TO GET PAYED, WE NEVER PAY USER REVIEWS
We pay 5 € per hostel, city or fiesta reviewed.  That should be enough to make it worth the couple of minutes it takes to take a few pictures and write a few paragraphs for each hostel, city or fiesta you stay at (you are required to include in the form your booking reference number).
Note: We will only pay the reviews of those users who stayed at hostels booked trough www.spaincheaphostel.com, this is the only way to assure the reviewer really stayed at the hostel.  Since while sending your review you'll be required to enter your booking code, bear in mind that you'll only get payed for one of the reviews you send us, either the hostel review, the city review or the fiesta review.
Will be paid via PayPal.com (it's free to sign up and you can have the payment deposited in your bank account). Important: The PayPal payments will be made to the email address you signed up with on Spaincheaphostel.com.  If your PayPal account uses a different email address then you will need to add this email address to your PayPal account, or just sign up with the reviewers sign-up form again but with your other email address. You don't need a PayPal "business/premier" account, just a personal PayPal account.

But besides making some money, you will be helping to create a really useful and complete Spain hostel guide that's used by thousands of backpackers.  For most of the hostels in Spain, there isn't any website focused on Spain you can currently go to find unbiased and informative reviews.  So the words you write will be travellers' primary source of information to find out what they can expect at a hostel before they arrive. And of course it's up to you if you want to photograph and review all of the Spanish fiestas or cities you stay at or just ones you feel like reviewing.
Other Misc Details:
If we decide to use neither your review nor your photos of a hostel, city or fiesta for any reason, then we won't pay you for the review. Reviews must include your name and e-mail. We may (and probably will) edit reviews and photos before they're listed on the website.  Your pictures and reviews become the property of Spaincheaphostel.com.

So those are the details.  Remember it's always up to you to review as many or as few hostels as you want. . If you decide that you're having too much fun on your trip and you don't want to take any more pictures or write reviews, than you're perfectly welcome to stop or start whenever you want.  If you submit reviews we usually require at least 3 hostel reviews as a minimum (to discourage a hostel owner from just submitting a review of his own hostel).

Spaincheaphostel.com can be a very thorough guide to hostels in Spain and we'll do our best to get the word out. For most hostels, your reviews will be the authoritative source of information about the hostels you review, and they will be read and used by thousands of other travellers for a long time to come.

Thanks for your help, enjoy your trip, and let me know if you have any other questions.
