The Madrid Metro is fast, clean, safe and easy to use. The 13 lines of the Madrid metro can take you easily to anywhere in the city.  You can buy metro tickets at any station (ticket office or vending machines): individual tickets (€ 1) or 10 tickets cards (6.15 €). The 10 tickets card is the best option, and it can be used by different people. The metro runs  from 6:00 AM to 2:00 AM. Although the Madrid metro is secure, it is important to note that pickpockets are common. Its main objective are tourist, specially  those who do not speak Spanish. Keep special caution in the rush hour and keep your things and money save.

Public city buses are a good and comfortable alternative to the metro. All buses are air conditioned and most using alternative energy. Access to buses with luggage is to determine by the driver, who can stop if the bus is too full. The metro and bus tickets are the same. If you have no ticket, you can pay to the driver. Most buses run every day between 6:00 and 23:00. Night buses (called "owls") operate less often and always stop at Plaza de Cibeles.

Remember that traffic jams are common in Madrid and it also affects buses, despite running on an exclusive bus lane for taxis and buses.
