Nightlife
Madrid is known around the world for its unique nightlife. Madrid is a city made for nights out, dance, laugh, talk, flirt ... This is a part of Madrid's culture. You'll find in Madrid a wide night offer: minimalist chill outs, attractive clubs, gothic discos, rogue bars, crazy afterhours and nostalgic dance clubs.
And during the summer, you'll find the city is plenty of night terraces where to have a drink at the open air.
Madrid's nightlife can be divideded in different areas.
Santa Ana and Huertas area:
Near the Puerta del Sol, one of the most popular nightlife areas in Madrid. You'll find door-to-door theaters, bars, tapas bars, restaurants and pubs that stay open until the morning. Crowded with people of all ages and backgrounds, it is certainly a good option if you don't want to spend the night moving from one area to another across the city. The Plaza de Santa Ana is this area meeting point.
Moncloa and Argüelles area:
Young atmosphere in the tapas bars and cafes from the early afternoon to night. Located in the Argüelles district, in the northwest part of town, this is the University area, most of Madrid's colleges are close to it.
Malasaña area:
It was the heart of Madrid's nightlife during the '80s. It offers a different nightlife, with shops dedicated to rock fans and very affordable prices compared to other areas.
Chueca area:
Restaurants, bars and terraces with a cosmopolitan atmosphere in the very center of Madrid. A few years ago it was one area to avoid, but in the early 90's gay community was established in the neighborhood and renovated houses and opened businesses, becoming the gay area of Madrid. Its center is the Plaza de Chueca.
Azca area:
Located in one of the most modern areas of the city, next to Paseo de la Castellana and close to the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. With many clubs and pubs, Orense street is famous for its Salsa Clubs, and the Avenida de Brasil for its big clubs where people gather late into the night.
