Even though many Backpackers in Spain might  think that we're using a cliché to describe Sevilla, we're just describing reality: Sevilla is different from any other city in Spain. Sevilla has a powerful character, Sevilla is joy and magic. Sevilla is a really special city, full of charm, with happy-go-lucky and friendly people.

Seville is a city that lives on the street, breathing in the party and spreading the happiness of its citizens.

Sevilla is located southwest of Spain, in the center of Andalusia and  it is the fourth largest city in the country having 704 414 people. It is  to be considered, without doubt, the artistic, cultural, financial, economic and social  heart of southern Spain.

Its cultural heritage and monuments as result of the many cultures that have been present in its history have made of Sevilla a great destination for Backpackers in Spain and tourism in general.  The different civilizations settlement in Sevilla has left a rich architectural heritage: great public and private palaces, government buildings, hospitals, universities, etc..  And for religious architecture, Seville is one of the cities with the largest number of churches and convents.

A must for visitors: The impressive Giralda, the Cathedral, the Alcazar, the Archivo de Indias and the Torre del Oro. Some of these monuments were declared World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. The Museum of Bellas Artes in Sevilla is the most visited museum in Andalusia and the second most important art gallery in Spain.

Sevilla is a show, the beauty of its streets with its orange trees, its magnificent bridges on the Guadalquivir River, the narrow streets of Santa Cruz or the burstling Betis Street during summer evenings, make it a unique city anywhere.

Sevilla is a beautiful city but VERY VERY hot in the summer, if you can you should go in another season. I've never been so hot before, my family and I were always seeking for shadow. There's only one metro line so most of the times we took the bus. It's a little expensive, 1,20€ a one way ticket and you can't use the same one to change from the metro to the bus, there's another kind of ticket for that. It's a bit expensive to eat tapas, but there are some restaurants that offer combo plates at good prices. Despite of the price, the food is amazing.

There were lots of foreigners, mostly Italian and French people, the few local people we saw were very kind.

This city offers all you are expecting to meet when you visit Spain, really good wheter, amazing food, spectacular and genuine traditions and friendly people.

We use it as the main point from which we explored all the south of Spain because is close to all the rest of important point to visit in the south of the country, such as Granada (only one hour away), or Malaga (about 1 hour and a half), and one of the best beaches ideal for kitesurfing and windsurfing: Tarifa (arround 3 hours).

It's also very usuall point from where to go to Portugal.

Overall very good experience
